Greetings,
All too often, the concept is that it’s the doctor who acquires all of the necessary information regarding his patient, and in return, the patient gains only a smattering of knowledge about the doctor and his practice. The purpose of this website is to change that!
First, let me introduce myself. My full name is Thomas Jay Wicks, and I was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, graduating from Kennedy High School there. Then, I attended Logan College of Chiropractic in St. Louis, Missouri, graduating in December 1987, with my undergraduate Degree in Human Biology, and as a Doctor of Chiropractic. I also have a Master’s Degree in Religion. My wife Christy and I have three children, Andrew, Ella and Lillie. The things I most enjoy are running, biking, spending time with my family, and playing the piano and clarinet (although not at the same time).
At the young age of three, after seeing the extraordinary results that my suffering mother gained through chiropractic after falling down a flight stairs, and unable to walk without help, I was led to Chiropractic, and to becoming the best I could be in that profession. Another incident that helped to solidify this desire occurred when I was eight years old and was suddenly stricken with severe abdominal cramps and pains so strong that the only position in which I could find comfort was that of a curled-up ball. I was taken to a Chiropractor who was able to help my body get in touch with the healing power from within. Never since has there been a recurrence of that problem. Seeing the difference Chiropractic had made in my life, I knew I wanted to help others in the same way.
Choosing to devote my life to the healing arts, because I want to make a difference in peoples’ lifestyles and health, it is my desire to see sick people get well through the healing force which made the body. One of my greatest desires is to help others as I’ve been helped, so they can experience optimal health. After seeing the benefits in myself, I want everyone with whom I come in contact, to experience the same kind of health freedom I enjoy.
With all my heart, I believe in the principles of chiropractic, that “the power that made the body can heal the body”, if given the proper nerve flow, which is vital for life to express itself fully. Physical stress from an accident, emotional tension from a family crisis, or a chemical imbalance caused by a lack of the proper nutrients in our diet, can all cause spinal imbalances and stress on our nervous system and its function.
I am enthusiastic, yet humbled, by the power of the body to heal itself, if given the opportunity. An example of the many hundreds of my patients who have benefited from chiropractic care is a little girl named Jamie, who had been diagnosed with an adverse vaccination reaction, which affected her nervous system. She was approximately two years old, became unable to walk, and would make only grunting noises. After a few sessions of care, she was walking and chattering, like any normal little toddler. What a thrill it was to observe someone so young, with such great obstacles, improve so dramatically.
Believing wholeheartedly in how I practice, and always striving to improve, I believe I give a great service for a fair fee. My desire is to help people. By your referring patients to me, together we can make a difference in our community, a healthier community with less strife and anger. Emotions rage when we are ill, and only with free nerve flow can we reach our full potential, becoming loving toward one another. Continually searching for better ways to help improve my patients’ health, countless hours and dollars are spent attending advanced post-graduate seminars as well as hours spent reading professional journals and articles, visiting with other doctors about ways to best help my patients and studying different techniques and research that will serve my patients and their health issues.
My office was established in Traer because the need was great, with very few chiropractors serving the people of this region. By providing an alternative to routine medications and/or surgery, I feel certain that I can play an important role in aiding those who are frustrated with their health care. The whole purpose of my office is serving my patients through the best possible chiropractic care. Listening closely to patients explain their problems and concerns enables me to provide that good care. The open and friendly environment, as well as the adjusting techniques I employ, working to assist my patients in achieving and maintaining optimal health naturally, without drugs or surgery, bring about the uniqueness of my practice. The two most important things in my office are your health, and my reputation. I work with the physically challenged–-from the athlete to the business executive–-from the college student and the farmer, to the newborn baby.
My personal promise to you is to give you a loving, caring environment, so that you will have every opportunity to resolve your health issues.
Yours for Good Health Thomas J. Wicks, D.C.

My name is Jimmy J. Smith. I was born in Iowa Falls, Iowa and graduated from Ackley High School. In 1989, I graduated from Northwestern Chiropractic College in Bloomington, MN. My wife, Karyl, and I have two adult daughters and one granddaughter. Having grown up on the farm, I have experienced many overuse type injuries and have always liked the hands on/no drug approach that chiropractic offered for these type of injuries. This was very influential in my career choice. It has been fulfilling learning and applying the knowledge of chiropractic to the benefit of my patients.
